How to install and use custom CS:S skins for gmod/ttt - reed1103 - 09-11-2017
In this guide i will show you how to install custom skins for CS:S weapons. Its fairly easy, and a hobby of mine is making them.
Only reskins work in gmod (Skins that only replace the way the weapon looks, while not editing the sound or the model of the weapon. Custom models and sounds do NOT work in Garry's Mod.)
1.) Download a skin. The most popular site is Gamebanana.com, but you can get one from another site that has CS:S skins.
2.) Open the .rar or .zip that the skin comes in. (Make sure you got only a reskin).
3.) Locate the materials folder.
4.) Drag the materials folder into your garrysmod folder. ( C:// Program Files x86/steam/steamapps/common/garrysmod/garrysmod/)
5.) When it asks if you want to replace the current materials folder that was already in there, hit "yes". (It won't acutally replace the current one, it'll just merge the two.)
6.) Finished. Enjoy! (I recommend deleting the "_ref.vtf" file that comes with the skin, mainly because it makes the skin look super shiny and almost unviewable (on hdr and bright maps). In CSS, though, these _ref.vtf files make the skin look better, because CS:S has different light graphics.
EDIT: Some different models and sounds work with gmod, but not all of them.

How would I find a skin for a certain gun I mainly us the bullshite so the mangum the m24 the ak47 and the aug I would love skins for those if anyone could help

So what I did is what u said, and it came out like this, and has a new sound and kinda sucks now, but when i delete the file back out of gmod, i get the old gun sound, with purple and black checkerboard? at this point i just want the default ak back but no matter what I do i get the checkerboard. lmao

Never try to use custom models. Custom sounds might work, but sometimes they don't. Where did you download that at?

I'll have to make a new tutorial for making custom addon/m9k skins. It's a little more complicated.

Its so screwy lol. i mean it still shoots fine but it has the purple arms. Prolly just gonna leave it as is cuz ill screw it up even worse haha.

Ok, i found a solution. the hands and arms are its own models, and it requires a material to texture them, and if they arent textured they'll turn into purple and black checkboads. This pack, https://gamebanana.com/skins/143405, is the original pack which your rainbow skin came from. The person that made the rainbow skin forgot to put the hands material in the rar. I extracted the arms and hands material and put it in a seperate rar file. You can download it here. https://files.fm/u/9x4nnncc#_
Put the materials folder in the rar file in your garrysmod folder (If it asks to merge the two, hit yes.)
The weapon will be held in the left hand for some reason, i cannot fix this.
