I mean. The point of a forum *is* to communicate using words. It could provoke more thoughtful conversation instead of mass -1 or mass +1. Either way. Nothing to be done until Matt and I can figure out the best way to handle rep.

why not at least have only have positive rep votes? at the least it rewards participation and helps people know when they said something good or if people may be indifferent (no + votes)

It is my humble suggestion to re enable reputations, and disable -reps if people can't handle it.

For starters, we already use a reputation plugin called XEM Fast Reputation that adds the plus and minus rep buttons to all forum posts, by default MyBB makes you manually + or - rep a post or user by typing in a reason, so if we wanted to "slow down" giving rep, we can just disable our plugin and make users type a reason for giving rep points.

Something I've mentioned at least a few times is a system CompactGamers used that let you react to posts with tags like Creative, Useful, Agree, Disagree, Like, Dislike, Funny, etc. and it added a lot to their forums:

This feature is built into XenForo, which is an entirely different forum software, but I dug around for a few minutes and found a MyBB plugin that lets you add custom reps similar to the XenForo rep system: https://community.mybb.com/mods.php?action=view&pid=234

^ typing a reason could actually work and if it’s some nonsensical reason it’s gets removed or something I guess.
