Welp, another drama for the tierlist.
correction, the only time we posted about it was when someone laced was posting for brought it up.
just wanna point out the person who sent me that has since said the transparency part was mostly filler

Then at this point, this thread could theoretically be closed. If transparency wasn't really part of the issue to begin with, and the intent was to open up a dialogue to see where we could improve transparency, we can now move on from this.

I did not sign up to be insulted or be a punching bag for others. No staff member signed up for this role.
Each person in this community, whether they be a player or a staff member, has a right to respect.
Of course, but the point I was making with that post is that mods know how people tend to treat them before signing up for it. Alright time for an even more retarded metaphor, say you sign up to work as a guard at a maximum security prison, they give you a tour of all the criminals and make you aware that its dangerous but you go through with it anyway. Say like two months later there's a riot or some shit and you get your face slashed open by a lifer. When you recover and go back to work many of the prisoners see your entire painful situation as a joke, and of course they do, because it makes them more powerful than you and its not like they respected you that much in the first place. You can't punish the lifer any further, you can't punish the prisoners mocking you because they haven't committed any crime, so what can you do? The difference between the prison situation and the server is that you have no obligation to continue being a guard/moderator, so your options are basically to suck it up, or to resign, and unfortunately once you've already been put through the stressful situation there's not a whole lot you can do to gain respect (not that there were many in the first place, many of these people would want to do harm in the first place just because of your power.) And by the way, I don't mean to say that server troublemakers are dangerous people who don't see you as a person, but this is like an exaggeration and shit, idunno man i wrote all this bullshit and i wanna post it now

Edit: I also wanted to say that I think that the last post was a resounding success because it 1:got me attention which I crave as a troll on the internet, and 2: Got everyone to reunite and agree on something, that something being that I'm a retard who should have his opinion license revoked, and I am fully willing to sacrifice shit like positive reputation for those two things, unlike in the prison metaphor, everyone wins!

You're right, that is probably the shittiest metaphor you probably could have made up. There are a bunch of reasons why but I will keep it down to two reasons:

1. The prisoners are forced to be in the prison. They are there for things from drugs, forgery, to kidnapping and murder. They belong there. This is a gaming community and the community members can choose to leave whenever they like and not all the community members have done anything bad to be forced here.

2. The officer is being payed. Not with a thank you or friendship with the prisoners who they are trying to keep contained but by monetary currency. This is so that they can buy things or pay for things that they need like shelter, electricity, food, clothes, etc. Most of the time, guards get financially compensated pretty well.

I think probably a more accurate metaphor would be an employee at Chuck E. Cheese's. Most of the adults or kids visiting are just there to have fun and come and go as they please. Every occasional kid or adult is an asswipe but since for most people it is not a forever job, they leave when they have enough. That still leaves room for the terrible people, like someone who would come rob the place, or a family that comes often, leaves a complete mess and then leaves, but still leaves enough room for the mostly chill people.

People signed up to help out the community or their server to help out like stopping ghosters, hackers, toxic trolls etc. Now some of the higher ups understand with the role that they have that it is part of the "job" but I can guarantee you that no one signed up to have to constantly deal with the supposed staff vs regulars or the pedophilia amongst other things.

Transparency according to WIKIPEDIA

"Transparency, as used in science, engineering, business, the humanities and in other social contexts, is operating in such a way that it is easy for others to see what actions are performed. Transparency implies openness, communication, and accountability.

Transparency is practiced in companies, organizations, administrations, and communities.[1] For example, a cashier making change after a point of sale transaction by offering a record of the items purchased (e.g., a receipt) as well as counting out the customer's change on the counter demonstrates one type of transparency.

The term transparency has a very different meaning in information security where it is used to describe security mechanisms that are intentionally in-detectable or hidden from view. Examples include hiding utilities and tools which the user does not need to know in order to do their job, like keeping the remote re-authentication operations of Challenge-Handshake Authentication Protocol hidden from the user".

I would say by this definition the community has transparency.

Lets start here "Transparency implies openness, communication, and accountability".

Everyone has access to Forums that is not already banned for a reason that is usually stated within the ban, even those banned have the opportunity to file for an unban AND ask for proof of their ban. The staff member that banned the player is to be mentioned with EVERY unban request, thus holding them accountable for their actions.
Also, proof is brought forth about person(s) who is potentially to be banned for the violation(s) which holds the accused accountable for their actions along with the staff member/player communicating and being open to what they witnessed.

Lets talk about the Security side of Transparency or the things behind closed doors shall we. In regards to the player spreading child porn links, those who essentially needed to know did know. The players exposed to this creature have been in communication with staff members, the upper staff has been made aware of this creatures existence and has been dealing with it the best we can.

->Does informing players not exposed to the situation actually help resolves the problem? No. Could a general announcement be made to not click on any links posted in chat? Yes. Is it also common sense to not click random links? Yes, but people still do it anyways because curiosity. Is it also common sense to not make jokes about more serious topics especially ones that have effected many community members? Yes, but that common sense is lost on various occasions for the sake of entertainment.

Now a few things were put in place to help reduce peoples exposure to links, and it's not perfect but it will help a little. The link and word filters put in place will hinder people a little but it doesn't stop them. I made an adjustment to the rules for DR as an additional back up if the unfortunate event happens on DR (which you can see in DR Change Log on forums. openness/communication/accountability).

Is this enough transparency? The openness, communication, and accountability that you've been seeking is right in front of you... Now if you want ALL the details in regards to others, as a normal player you aren't privy to that information and it is not necessary for you to have those details. Not sorry.

Hopefully this helped/made sense. IF not, then ignore it.
