If memory serves me I remember reading something within the last year about some game devs making it so games that are obtained through illegitimate means do not function properly in some way. Its been awhile since I came across it so take this with a grain of salt.

anti-piracy measures have been around for a while. there are older games, like casino, inc., that massively change the RNG to make the game borderline unplayable by constantly triggering negative events if it they detect piracy. not super relevant to the thread, just a silly little bit of info :3
