I recently decided to pursue my retro game collecting again. These are some recent highlights I've acquired for my collection.
I've gotten many more big purchases but these are my latest two. RN I've spent about $700 in retro gaming in the last month.

I see your point but even then 16gb is plenty, 32 is overkill and that's what I have (but I utilize it for rendering) and 64 is just a plain waste

For now yeah but as technology progresses more ram will be needed. When I first built my PC 8 gigs was plenty and 4 was normal.

I used to regularly run out of ram, and I have 32gb. I have since moved my data analysis of large datasets to a 64 core, 240gb of ram sever in the cloud. 

If you don’t got 240gb of ram you ain’t living. This does cost significant $$$ to run so I turn it off when not in use.
