Why the need for transparency?

We did that - your group were some of the people making it worse. I'm glad you agree with our decision.
Could you like, not?

I'm sorry but what does the name of the post even mean? For real, I mean. "what's the need for transparency?" I mean, we'd like to know if there's a problem and want to keep our ears low to the ground to stay apprised with what's going on past shitposting. Not a hard concept to grasp in all honesty. That was not exactly what I meant when I considered the question again I'm making a conscious effort to not delete what I wrote to keep it in here. When something happens in the community we'd like at least an explanation as to what the hell was going on because knowing what happened is important to some of us. We want to have a meaningful discussion with what had transpired and bring forward more examples of shit like that happening. Cause we're not perfect ourselves, but condemning that behavior, and cutting it out, it helps not create this classless division in our community over what should and shouldn't be by having this bar made about what's tolerable and gives the community members confidence in the system.

I might as well chime in I guess. My opinions are as follows:

1) Staff telling the community the reason(s) and circumstances around a ban = a good way to be transparent. Do we need details though for more severe cases such as pedophilia, doxing, etc.? No, we just need to know that the situation was handled.

2) Leaking staff chat has been against the rules since it first started. Nothing is being hidden from the general public that is of dire importance. Staff discord mostly serves as an archive and a huge group chat for staff these days if you want the honest truth. Just a more laid back and exclusive server imo.

3) I don't know why transparency is such a big meme for late 2020 to now, but the community is already made aware of everything that it needs to know.

4) I think that at this point people are labeling over-stepping by some select staff "transparency issue," whenever in reality it is just a fault of an individual and not the entire group refraining for spreading knowledge.

That's my take, thanks.

I didnt think anything that certain people said was funny, you can't just go around calling people pedos and expect them to be happy with it. The crap people said to me simply because I am PH Staff was absolutely abhorrent and I was actually upset. I know that many things can be memed, discord staff, being staff in general and so on. I don't care about getting crapped on for being discord staff. But I NEVER will understand why people think its funny to make jokes about this *very* sensitive subject. There is a line and several people crossed it.
I totally agree with being transparent but I dont get the namecalling, trash-talking and other shit that I had to go thru for literally no reason other than just being here.

The reason for this thread is because I want to know at what point will the staff be transparent enough? We've tried to be as open and as transparent with things that were needed to be put out as of late. THe name of the post was made because of a comment that Laced on someone else's behal(who wanted to remain anaonymous) made calling for more transparency when we've done that. We don't need to say something when some asshole is posting child porn in our servers and making at least 100 alts to fuck with us. Not to mention pedophilia isn't something we should really be making jokes about. Yes I realise I've made them in the past but I grew up and realised they aren't funny to me anymore. I will ask again though, you guys do realise just how bad the staff get shitposted when we try anything. Right? You guys aren't gonna tell me that you don't see it when everytime we try to do something, it gets blasted and memed within the day. I only posed this question so maybe this discussion could be held so maybe we can reach a common ground. We the staff need the help of the community members who want to help progress forward. Call out the shitposters. Help us weed out the assholes so we can work on making this place better.

Okay so Idk if this is gonna make sense? (I'm high pls forgive me - since yall want transparency I will be perfectly honest throughout this)

I agree with Travis, and I see all sides of the argument.

For me personally, Abdel ALWAYS gave me ~vibes~ ya dig, so when I started to notice some weird things I kept it in the back of my head, one day I was in a call with Fish, B0T, another member of staff I don't remember who, and B0T and myself BOTH brought up that there was something ~weird~ with Abdel, we started talking more and discovered the things we were seeing briefly and stories we heard in passing were actually something to look into - Fish did just that so quickly. And boom, Abdel was out.

With Geb, I saw Speedy's reply and honestly, wholeheartedly, thought it was just drama between the two based off their long past of Sona together, arguments, annoyances and Speedys app being denied. I should have listened to my gut that something wasn't right, but given how I had become so close with Geb so quickly, I refused to believe it was real until something more concrete was discovered.

I was fucking DEVISTATED when I found out about Geb. This was someone I made plans with, someone I was going to drive to see (they live on the same Island as me), someone who I found a really close friend in. I am still really hurt, angry, disgusted and fucking devastated. I have a lot happening in my personal life, I have a very mentally demanding career, my dad is probably about to kill himself or overdose on crack or both, my mom isn't well, I have multiple mental and physical health issues. So this news was just a lot to take in, and seeing people joke about them, bring it up with half assed facts and demanding more and more is HARD.

DAYS after this happens I have to re-watch it all, because half of you want more information (which I can absolutely understand) and half of you want the "next best thing" of drama to keep yourselves entertained. I get it, drama is fun. Causing a hell storm is hilarious, blah blah.

This was someones friend at some point. The victims are relying on our trust to keep this very private information safe. The victims are dealing with a lot of emotions and whatever else they are feeling.

I get it. But why are we giving when its never good enough for half of you.

I don't mean this in an aggressive way, but you signed up for this and you have no obligation to stay a moderator. If you need a break or need to just full on leave, there are no real tethers to this stupid video game server and it has very little amount to the real world.

I can feel this is an incredibly frustrating for both moderators and regulars, the mods think that the regulars keep digging for information that they don't need, and that they don't really deserve, given how they treat the mods. And the regulars, like me, feel that what we're being presented is lackluster at best, and that we deserve more meaty answers.

I still believe that the staff can get more transparent, but now I am not sure what that would actually entail.

Immediate edit: I don't mean to assume what you guys are thinking or feeling, this is just what I'm picking up generally

I can absolutely appreciate what you're saying here, and I did in fact take a very long break from PH - only going on to do random bans if absolutely needed. This is where I come to hide from my problems when my other tools to I use to help don't really cut it. I decided to take a long break because I wanted to focus on my personal career.

The Geb incident and all the personal things I listed happened within 3 days of each other. And then seeing all the shit that happened after, just really left a sour taste for me in my mouth and exhausted me. But I've chosen to come back and take charge of being a Mod again because this is the only place I get where I have FULL control over what I choose to do.

Except that we all want to be here. Well some of us do. The ones who are fighting to make this place a better one. If we all just kinda left when shit got bad, then you'd never have any staff and nothing would get done. The community that I dealt with when I was a moderator back in 17-18 wasn't nearly as demanding in terms of what they wanted to know. THey knew we got shit done and that was that. What was needed to know was put out. Just like it is now. Nothing in my eyes has changed in that aspect. The biggest thing that has changed is that people want to know more. Which I understand to a point but at what point do staff get to protect sensitive information vs giving everything out due to transparency?

It bothers me to see this, as I've experienced the issue first hand (have had a hand in the banning effort of the link spammer), and I fully understand why it wouldn't be just made a news headline. It is a very painful experience for the community as a whole, be it they realize it or not. Not to mention, an effort to provent links getting out to the broader public, and not have people romantisize the situation as a whole. Jokes at the expense of victims alone is just not okay, but harassing the staff and community, who had no hand in making this even happen? Just unfair.
 Uh oh, all errors!
